Welcome to an afternoon at the tidal pools of Las Rocas and the Baja Mexico coastline just south of Rosarito.

Southern California and the Baja Mexico coastline are lined with many rocky cliff areas that provide a paradise for ocean and marine creatures to live.

These rocky underwater areas are referred to as "Tidal Pools", since each pool is a complete microcosm of life and activity.

Come spend a special low tide afternoon at the Tidal Pools of Las Rocas and see what makes Baja California such an incredible place to visit.

Sometimes with all the rocks and images, you may think you are walking on the moon, but this wonderland of creatures and life are only revealed in such a matter on days of very low tides.

Here is a photo looking over one of the large tidal pool sections loaded with hundreds of little tidal pools going down the coastline for miles.

Starfish Twister

Here a starfish arranges itself to be very firmly planted into the rock area surrounding.

With nothing to do but wait for the tide to come in to move on, this starfish tries to camouflage itself with the coral and other sea life.

An underwater view of a tidal pool

Here is a look at one of the underwater worlds loaded with shells, abalone, crabs, and other sea creatures.

Once setting still for the photo you could see all the little shells starting to shuffle their way around the bottom.

in this pool alone there may have been upwards of 50 little crabs all with little shells about the size of a dime.

The Big Rock

There was one section at the very end closest to the ocean that was obviously not exposed to air and mand. One section was the big rock that was loaded with thousands of mussles.

There were sections so thick they could not be walked on because of the danger of slipping.

Here is one pool closest to the ocean and one rarely seen by people.

Only the seagulls were able to navigate themselves on some of the rarely exposed tidal plol areas.
These areas were lined with tens of thousands of mussles and shellfish.

These greeen sea creatures just wait until something swims close enough and they close right up and wrap up their prey which comprises of small fish and shell creatures.

Certain areas of the tidal pools were only accessible for the seagulls because of the thousands of mussles lodged on the rocks.
